Can I choose the scene to be painted?
The most popular scenes are the ceremony, the reception, or the cocktail hour. The focus of the painting is usually on the bride and groom, parents on both sides, maid of honor and best man. I include realistic representations of up to 8 people. Others can certainly be included, such as the bridesmaids and groomsmen, siblings or other important guests. These will be recognizable by hair color and style, clothing, but the faces will be loosely painted. I feel that too many figures can draw attention away from the most important people on that special day! I am happy to discuss the figures to include and how best to incorporate them into your vision, as well what is involved in painting a particular scene, at our initial consultation.
When do you arrive to paint at my wedding?
Usually 2-3 hours in advance, to set up and start painting the background. When your guests arrive, they will be excited to see a painting in progress! I continue to paint at the event for about 3-5 hours more, depending on the location and timing of the event.
How much space do you need?
Approximately 5 x 5 ft. I bring all of my own tables and lighting, and just require an electrical outlet if painting indoors.
What do you need the day of the event?
I will bring all the needed materials but I will require access to an electrical outlet if indoors, and shelter from the elements if out of doors. If the day is sunny and warm, I will need a place to work that is out of direct sunlight. Please be advised that I will need to be placed where I have direct access to the scene to be painted. For example, if I am painting your first dance, then I will need to be set up nearby with a clear view of the dance floor in order to capture your chosen moment perfectly!
When will my painting be finished?
I will take your painting back to my studio, to finish the details using photos that I have taken, if it cannot be finished on location. Oil paint stays wet for a few days, so most guests prefer to have the painting shipped to them when dry. The painting can take anywhere from 4-8 weeks to finish depending on the size and amount of detailing to be completed.
Are people allowed to watch while you paint?
Absolutely! Guests love being a part of the experience, and enjoy seeing themselves painted into the picture! I love hearing exclamations of ‘look, that’s me!” from guests or wedding party members. It means I am doing my job well! I am also happy to answer questions about art and painting, as I have degrees in art history and fine art!
Do you paint from life or photos?
I render most of the painting on location from life, and use photos as reference during the event and for completing details in my studio. I can also do a painting from a photo if the event has passed already, or do paintings as gifts for relatives after the event has occurred.
Can I purchase a gift card?
Yes, I have several options available! You may purchase a gift card for any of my Live Painting Packages or ‘From Photo to Painting’. In addition, I also offer smaller canvases for gift-giving, ranging from 11 x 14 to 14 x 18, starting at $350.00 which can feature a portrait of the engaged couple, the married couple, the bridal bouquet, etc. Please reach out via my contact page, and I will customize your gift card, which you can either print at home or have mailed to you!
What is your style of painting?
My favorite artists come from a variety of art movements, impressionism, realism and romanticism. Think Claude Monet, Edward Hopper, John Singer Sargeant and William Turner. All have influenced me and I feel that my artwork reflects some of each of their styles.
What type of paint do you use?
I use only the highest quality oil paints. I love the luminosity of that medium and the extensive color ranges that can created. Oil paint also necessitates using turpentine as a medium, and I always use odorless.
What size canvases do you offer?
I offer 24 x 30, 24 x 36 and 30 x 40 size canvases. The most popular choice for the majority of my couples is the 24 x 36! I would recommend at least that size if you have a very large wedding party and a significant amount of guests. If you have a question about choosing different canvas size than the ones listed here, please feel free to reach out to me for a custom quote!
What happens when I contact you?
I will set up a free phone consultation so we can get to know one another a bit. I like to hear your concerns, and answer any questions about how the process will go. I want to assure you that I will provide a stress free experience for you, with a captured moment on canvas for you to cherish forever once the event is over!
How do I book you for an event painting?
I require a signed contract and a 50% deposit to reserve your date!
What does it cost to have an event painting done?
My prices start at $2,000.00 for an 24” x 30” canvas and increase depending on the size of the canvas and the complexity of the piece. Feel free to check out the full investment details here!
Do you have insurance?
Yes, I have $1,000,000.00 business liability insurance coverage!
Will you travel outside of Vermont?
YES! I travel to all the New England and Mid Atlantic states. I will travel one hour to an event without needing an overnight stay, weather and road conditions permitting. For distances of over one hour, I require an additional travel fee to cover a hotel stay.
